Step on the ground and you’ve lost; you have to move carefully and cunningly; everything around is unfamiliar and predatory. Space melts, roars and erupts in undifferentiated flows of sounds, symbols, memories and materials. “The Floor is Lava” is an apartment exhibition — a reflection on density, cramped space and oversaturation. Children’s play, intuitiveness and informality become an answer to claustrophobia and paranoia. The space itself takes on subjecthood, helping visitors find their own way of existing within it.

The identity is built on typographic tightness, unstable compositions and generative graphics: a lava generator — a tool that “melts” text and exports the result as image and video — became the source of all the visual material. Each layout is a different state of the same mass, flowing, setting and spreading again. There is no semantically important information in the lower part of the layouts, because the floor is lava — everything that has to be read stays up top, and the bottom is given over to the melt. The lava generator was featured in Slanted Magazine #47.

Alongside it ran an alternative poster series built on an element from Karyna Synytsia’s painting — a crack in the floor. It works by a different logic: not the melt, but its precondition. The crack runs through densely set text and splits it in two, the way a fault line splits a room. The void of the fissure is the only part of the layout free of information.
